2.0.6 Safe to install
Developed in collaboration with THAMES & KOSMOS: The Sky – Astronomy is a comprehensive and user-friendly planetarium application designed for both casual observers and amateur astronomers. It provides an accessible platform for exploring the night sky and celestial phenomena.
Version 2.0 introduces several new features, including an eclipse timetable, detailed orbits of celestial objects, and an expanded database covering 6,500 cities worldwide, including 2,500 in the United States.
This application allows users to identify stars, planets such as Mars, and even the International Space Station by simply pointing their smartphone or tablet towards the sky. The interface enables easy navigation to locate planetary positions and constellation patterns, facilitating sky recognition without prior extensive knowledge.
With visualizations of Jupiter’s location and guidance on finding individual zodiac signs in the sky, The Sky offers close-up views of planets, moons, and deep-space objects with impressive detail. Users can explore Saturn’s moons or embark on virtual journeys through space to distant stars and nebulae, enhancing understanding of our universe.
The Sky provides educational content about complex celestial events such as solar eclipses and planetary oppositions through engaging animations and clear explanations. This approach demystifies astronomical mechanics for beginners while maintaining scientific accuracy for enthusiasts.
Designed for users of all ages and experience levels—children, students, amateurs—the app’s intuitive interface enables immediate comprehension of the night sky without extensive training. It supports outdoor astronomy activities, whether around campfires or during night walks, fostering a shared appreciation for space exploration.
The application incorporates over 9,000 stars, 88 constellations, numerous moons, asteroids, comets, and approximately 200 deep-sky objects. All are accurately positioned with real-time motion tracking, offering a dynamic viewing experience.
Key features include recognition of stars and constellations, identification and tracking of planets and satellites, immersive virtual flights through space to distant celestial bodies, and current night sky simulations. It also offers tools to understand various astronomical phenomena comprehensively.
Regarding the upcoming total solar eclipse visible in North America on April 8, 2024, The Sky provides extensive information: detailed eclipse paths across Mexico, the USA, and Canada; safety guidelines for observation; precise timing data based on your location; engaging animations simulating the eclipse; detailed sky maps illustrating visible planets and stars during totality; visual explanations of eclipse mechanics; and multimedia resources including images and videos.
The app allows location selection via map tools or GPS to optimize viewing experiences. For more advanced content, a premium subscription unlocks additional space exploration modules, enhanced orbit data, further educational sections—such as "Discover Astronomy"—spectacular eclipse imagery and videos from April 8, 2024, an eclipse calendar spanning 1900 to 2100, and a guided tour of the Mars 2020 mission with animations of rover landings and Martian environments.
